The most important question any individual can ask is, “How can I become a Christian?” To answer that question I would need to direct the inquirer to the entirety of the Word of God but let me encourage you to read on for there is an answer.
First of all lets define some terms. Being a Christian means belonging to Christ and following His teachings. How a person becomes a Christian is the subject of this article. This process is some times referred to as being “Saved.” To be “Saved” we mean that through the death of Jesus on the cross our sin debt can be forgiven and we are saved from the consequences of being a sinner which is eternity in hell. It may also be referred to as being “Born Again.” Being “Born Again” means that by the power of God we are made a new person, not outwardly but inwardly and that we are given eternal life

Being “Born again,” that is the term used by our Savior, is a work of God accomplished in the life of an individual by the Holy Spirit as a result of Jesus death on Calvary’s cross. It is not something we do, but something that happens to us or better yet in us.

Some would want us to believe that we can become a “Christian” by signing a card, walking an aisle, saying a prayer, being baptized and joining a Church. None of these things will save you. You may do all of these things as a result of being saved but they do not save you. Most all of these things will happen when God has accomplished his work of salvation in your life.

If you are still reading what I have written it is because God is at work in your life drawing you unto salvation and Himself. Scripture states that the natural man will not seek after God.

Psalm 10:4 (NIV)
4  In his pride the wicked does not seek him;
               in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
If there is a desire in your heart to know God you are doing something that is totally contrary to the nature of man.
Romans 3:11-12 (NASB)
11 THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS,
  THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD;
12 ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS;
